Understand Your Pregnancy

During pregnancy, your body goes through many changes. Some common symptoms of early pregnancy include a missed period, nausea, breast tenderness, frequent urination, tiredness, and mood swings.

A pregnancy test is usually the first step in confirming your pregnancy. New Beginnings Pregnancy Care Centers offer free pregnancy tests.

Your doctor may request an ultrasound exam to confirm the status of your pregnancy. This is important whether you are considering abortion or continuing with your pregnancy. New Beginnings Pregnancy Care Centers offer free ultrasounds.

The following definitions and fetal development photos will help you understand more about your pregnancy:

Day 1

When fertilization occurs, the baby’s features, including sex, hair and eye color, have already been determined.

Day 5 - 9

Developing baby, now an embryo, implants in the uterus.

Day 21

Human heartbeat starts.

8 Weeks LMP: 6 weeks fertilization

The nervous system has begun to function; the heart is completely formed.

9 Weeks LMP: 7 weeks fertilization

At this age, the baby’s heart has been beating for one month and the fingers and toes are developed.

10 Weeks LMP: 8 weeks fertilization

At 10 weeks, the baby hiccups and reacts to loud noises.

13 Weeks LMP: 11 weeks fertilization

The baby has begun swallowing.

At 16 weeks the baby’s gender can be determined by ultrasound.
